Printing and Painting The Deep Citadel From The Kingdom of Saxonia Set

Some terrain we 3D printed and painted. Here, the client sent us his Kingdom of Saxonia files for us to 3D print, on his behalf, for his personal use. We 3D filament printed the Deep Citadel. It’s a large, fun, terrain piece that looks quite a bit like a fortress from a certain movie…

While it was still unpainted, we used it for a Mordheim battle (I lost, as usual). It’s a fun piece with lots of places to stick minis.

Conquest The Last Argument of Kings: Some Painted Dweghom Miniatures

We got to paint some Dweghom from Conquest: Last Argument of Kings.

Conquest minis are huge. Often huge and chunky. They are crammed with details. This makes for very satisfying-looking figures.

Here were to match a client’s scheme and basing for the Dweghom he already had.

Imperator Titan? Painting a Warbreaker for Adeptus Titanicus

When we were approached to paint the Battle Bling’s ‘Warbreaker Titan’ I almost fell off my chair. We’ve all been waiting for GW to put out an Imperator Titan kit. I figured the Business Gods had just ruled it out as unprofitable.

Then we learned about this model, and were asked to paint it.

It’s huge. Just look at how small it makes the Warlord Titan look! It’s massive too - the arms weighed too much for our puny magnets to hold them in place. Instead, for the photo shoot, we shoved some cardboard inside the joint to create a temporary dry fit.

All the weapons were magnetized as you can see in the pics below.

Bolt Action: Painting a 28mm British Airborne Army

Here we painted quite a few Late War, British Airborne. These are by Warlord Games and are chiefly metal minis.

The painting was straightfoward. What wasn’t was making sure things were done to historical accuracy.

There’s plenty of detail in Fantasy and Science Fiction minis. However, its often exaggerated, or sculpted to catch the eye. It isn’t so with Historical wargame minis. With them, small pack of bandages is just a small pack of bandages.

Our way around this is:

• to make a list of all the gear (water bottles to bayonets)

• find pictures of them

• put them together in a guide

The painters then work off the guide.

We also watched A Bridge Too Far. If you were to walk into the studio and see a bunch of us watching movies, it still counts as work.

We 3D Printed and Painted a Giant Warhammer Quest 1995 Board

We 3d printed and miniature painted a oversized replica of the original, cardboard, dungeon tiles and doors for Warhammer Quest 1995. We think it all looks a bit mad -- and hope you do as well!

Recreating the game in the 3rd dimension

It took us 2 months to print and paint these. We used original scans of the 1995 game to match the painting as closely as we could. Each tile was scaled to be 6cm length and width.

Most of the files needed some extra attention as they didn’t fit on the build plate outright. We got those files cut and printed separately before putting them together. As we printed, we ensured that each tile was printed and scaled in a way that made sense, when it was all put together.

Here are pictures of each individual tile that we printed and painted to bring this to life.

Warhammer 30k Horus Heresy: Kharn the Bloody and Sevatar - First Captain of the Night Lords, are Nice and Disturbing

I found Forge World’s first releases of Primarchs and character to be disappointing. Just big marines, with their bases decorated with — littler marines. Those early pieces set the tone.

However, looking at Kharn the Bloody and Sevetar - First Captain of the Night Lords, I noticed how the sculptors had done some very clever work.

First off, Sevetar. On his base the dead White Scar’s helmet has been carefully set aside. He holding his real weapons away, as the sculptor is saying “I have set those aside, now look at this!”

The this is a small, elegant knife — clearly a ritual blade. One then notices that the White Scar has been scalped. Given the wide open eyes and screaming mouth; was he scalped while still alive? It is such a narrative rich piece. You have to sit and give it your time to see these things.

Next, consider the big open void under his base, as shown below. The sculptor worked with negative space by literally creating negative space. Enough for a 6mm figure in there (also as shown below). I’ve never seen anyone do that with a base.

Next, Kharn the Bloody. This seems at first a bit of straightforward sculpting. However, in the pictures, you’ll notice there is no clear angle that best shows the narrative. Instead, you need to hold the mini and turn it round and round, looking at. Also, you need to look at it from above. Minis look best when looked at from “mini” height. This one is an exception. It seems designed to be looked at from above, as if by a casual observer.

AT-43… 40K? Necrons Painted Like Therians, A Sci-Fi Mashup That Works

AT-43 was a prepainted game (remember that craze?) by Rackham, a company now sadly closed. Their Therians were the killer robots trying to take over the universe. So, onbrand for Necrons too.

Space Wolves: The New Logan Grimnar Slaps And We’re Grateful We Painted Him

40k: We Painted Brass and Deep Purple Custodes with NMM Blue Blades

The most happy surprises we get with color schemes seems to be with Adeptus Custodes. We’re typically asked to do custom schemes for them — and the clients keep picking bangers.

I quitc liked this scheme. The brass and purple worked well together, and the blue added to the cool tones of the palette. We 3d printed the bases.

We Painted over 1,500 Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game (MESBG) Miniatures for this 8x16 Foot, Lord of the Rings Diorama

This diorama has the largest handcrafted elements of any such Lord of the Rings diorama, in the world.

We’ve hinted for years that we’ve been working on some interesting but secret projects. This one we got permission to go public with. Below, I talk about it, at Lanka Comic Con 2025.

Largest in the World?

When the video above was shot, we mistakenly thought it was THE world’s largest handcrafted Lord of the Rings diorama. We now believe that is actually by the New Zealand Youtube Crafter, ZorpaZorp.

Ours however has the largest handcrafted elements of a Lord of the Rings diorama. They are the walls of Minas Tirith: 8 feet wide. The highest point of the second wall, behind me in the image, is at 5 feet.

This took 2 years to do. It involved not only building and painting minis, but also crafting, 3D printing, and 3D designing. It was nice to have a project where we could bring ALL these to the table (literally).

We’re quite pleased that Buddmin Amaradiwakara from News 1st did a story on it for the national news. Here’s their video on it:
